Rules for the International Spider Solitaire Rankings
The Spider Solitaire Rankings have been existing for three years now. Within this time, I have always been wondering about some players' scores which must have included a huge amount of luck. But finally, there turned out to exist two general intentions of how to achieve a high score in Spider Solitaire - unfortunately two very different ones.

So, with the results of a short survey among the listed players which intention they have or at least accept, the conclusion is the following:
1. The existing ranking structure is split into two types of rankings.
2. The so-called "Type I" is reserved for games that fulfil some restrictions of playing: You choose a new deal and play. You submit the score that is achieved when finishing the game for the first time. The restrictions are:
- It's not allowed to submit a score that was achieved in a game that has already been finished once or many times before and has just been restarted
- It is allowed to save the game to close Spider and continue later with the same deal
- It is allowed to save at critical points, e.g. before dealing a new row of cards. Reloading the saved game is only allowed in the case of an important reason for reloading a game, e.g. a very bad new row of cards which makes you lose the game.
3. Every other form of saving and reloading, especially continuous saving and reloading and thus finding an optimal path to clear the game with a minimum of unnecessary moves and a maximum of matching cards, is not allowed in Type I games. But Spider Solitaire offers the possibility to save and reload, therefore the so-called "Type II" rankings are the designated place for these scores. Of course, you can also restart the same game again and again. The restrictions for this type are:
- It is not allowed to cheat, namely to manipulate the spider.sav file.
- Your second-best score must have been done on a different deal than your highscore.
4. No cheating (neither for Type I nor for Type II) is any of the following:
- pressing F2 as long as the game seems to look nice
- using the Undo function (as it is sanctioned by an additional move, you shouldn't use it too often nonetheless)
5. Logically, every Type I game should fulfil the rules of Type II, so that's the reason why the Type II rankings also contain the Type I scores.
6. [Added in 2008] Scores achieved with Windows Vista are not accepted due to different scoring!

Everyone is free to accept these rules. As unofficial internet rankings are mainly based on honesty, I hope that all listed scores and times fulfil the corresponding rules.
These rules are valid from now on. In general, I must trust in the honesty of a player who submits anything. If any listed score in the Type II ranking was done in Type I mode, feel free to tell me.
